New this year we will be challenging the children and youth to know who the Patron Saint of the Day is when they arrive at class. You can help them learn more about the saints by visiting links shared prior to class. Have fun learning about the Saints together! https://www.franciscanmedia.org/saint-francis-of-assisi/
The first Gathering of the year we talked about the Altar, the Ambo and the significance of these two things in our lives as Catholics. We reviewed the gestures and postures we commonly use throughout mass in an interactive and fun way.
This week during The Gathering we reviewed material that was covered last time and talked about Saints. We learned about the Saint Bags that families can borrow from Church and Spencer shared about his favorite saint, St. Augustine. Children also received a St. Augustine prayer card to take home.
With the start of Advent right around the corner we learned about the O Antiphons today. Advent begins on November 29th. We are having Advent Adventures following masses on November 28 and November 29. A chance to come gather up items to bring into your home to help you celebrate and prepare for the birth of Christ!
As we get ready to enjoy all the traditions that this season offers we discussed the idea of WHY? Why do we do what we do? Why do we decorate the house, tree, set out a nativity scene, decorate cookies. With the help of a the delightful book "The Legend of the Christmas Cookie" we looked at the legend of why we decorate cookies. Have fun this Advent/Christmas while keeping in mind the whys? as you go about this wonderful time of year. Make it count.
Recently you should have received a picture of the Holy Family in the mail. We discussed who the Holy Family is and the significance of this gift from our Bishop.
